Those repulicans have to swing that far right to get their nomination, well when it`s a heads up republican vs democrats i really dont think he`s got a cat in hells chance of being President, he will try to com in  back towards the centre right and peeps will just see through it, surely, mind you it`s America and we know how the saying goes "only in America" but yes i`d like to think the majorority of peeps have more sense.

 

The thing is he's already changed his tune on more than one occasion yet his supporters seem to be oblivious to it - he seems to get the crowd riled up by telling them what they want to hear and then saying whatever he feels like once they're so worked up they probably don't know/can't hear what's being said.

If race relations get any worse in America (and they will if this bigot gets into the White House) they will IMO have another civil war on their hands.

I don't know how it works over there but over here one doesn't need to appeal to the masses — Less than 50% is enough.

Governments here can get elected by gaining 40-odd% of the vote.

And that's from a 60-odd% turnout, which means that just 24% of the electorate get a government they voted for.

I was just thinking the other day maybe not the best time in America to show the new movie Captain America Civil war! i have a friend who lives in Oregon and she is genuinely scared by the way people who are around her are speaking, she is married to somebody who is an immigrant he is from el salvador,  he works hard pays taxes she had to go live there and they had to jum p through so many hoops to be together, she said they are leaving the country if Trump gets in and everyone she knows says the same so i am not sure how the voting system works over there.

It depends which part you mean.

The 40% thing is down to the first past the post system, the 60% turnout is because lots of people don't turnout to vote, for whatever reason.

The turnout figure does include spoiled ballots though, so I write something like "None of the above — The system is broken" on mine
