Whilst it is technically correct to say that inter/cross-breeding for selective traits results in GMOs, the fear is probably more of techniques such as gene-splicing and other methods which manipulate the genes directly, along with things such as patenting of genes, the inability to produce one's own seed, reliance on specific fertilisers/weedkillers, etc.

I came across an interesting article not long ago on the round up resistant crops that are produced.

And how one plant species had already made it's self resistant to round up ( a one time food source that's now considered a weed.)

Bill Nye talks about it a little.

We do have to be careful with what we are doing but it doesn't detract from the fact that it needs done.
