Well, you've made it this far - it's only polite that we explain where we have come from...
So how did we get to where we are today? Let's start right in the beginning. Where it all started, many moons ago.
The Everyonedoesit(or EDiT) forums were a madhouse. It was a massive forum with all sorts of topics relating to the multitude of things the site sold. Personally I think of it as a "chaotic cacophony of counter-culture" - and have been told that sums it up rather well The site catered for a few select groups of people, from the psychonauts looking to experiment with the substances the site had for sale, to the growers that wanted to learn more about how to grow the seeds they had purchased there. This made for one hell of a mix of people, and a potential nightmare for lawyers.
So when the home-grown company got too big for its boots, the founder sold up. The new owners brought the lawyers in who basically cut short the forums with hardly any notice as they were seen to be a liability.. And fair play. Selling seeds/bongs/"not for consumption" powders, etc and then talking about them on the same forum was viewed as risky so they had to clean up their act. And the website was established enough to continue without the forums. The EDiT forums were sadly shut down forever in early 2007
This caused upset amongst the community, and multiple people decided to branch off and set up their own forums. One of these was called Chilled Times, and housed a lot of the non-growers from EDiT, whereas all the growers flocked to THCTalk, with many users floating between the two, coexisting in harmony.
Over time THCTalk was nurtured and developed into a close-knit, mainly UK-based community, that was always friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Built around the ethos of everyone helping everyone to grow cannabis, to the best of their ability without consideration of monetary gain. It was all for the love. A 10-plant limit was enforced to ensure that cash-croppers, gangs and real criminals had no want or need to come here.
THCTalk continued under the same sole-ownership for 7 years of its life. Until shortly before its birthday in May 2014, it was sold to an American-based marketing company who attempt to buy up small communities in an attempt to monetise them, a tactic which was completely against the ethos of THCTalks community.
This caused a great deal of distress amongst the members as there was literally no notice of this happening. Even the dedicated team of volunteer Admins and Moderators were not informed in advanced, leading to a mass exodus of a lot of old-time, experienced members and long-standing pillars of the community. Not only this, but the new owners came crashing onto the forum with a torrent of aggressive remarks against the bosses now style comments, and a team of inexperienced moderators
Thankfully partially down to the strength of the community it didnt take long for members to meet off the forum and talk about what happened. The next day it was decided by the former team of THCTalk that a new, SAFE place for the community would be established. We all loved THCTalk from the bottom of our hearts, but what made THCTalk was the people, and they were leaving. If we didnt do something now, the community was at risk. Action needed to be taken.
The team established a collective with shared ownership of the forum, meaning there was no potential for history to repeat itself. There is no chance the owner of The Green Circle will just sell up and disappear because TGC is run by the community, for the community. We spent just as long establishing the ground-rules and moral basis of our group as we did developing the website.
As well as stability of the site, we also focused on security. Choosing to host the forums in a state-of-the-art datacentre in the Netherlands where our activities are more accommodated. A brand-new forum platform, kept up-to-date with all the latest updates meaning that we are constantly as secure as can be, and some great plugins to really extend the functionality of the site, and make it our own.
Now all that is good and well but who are The Green Circle? If you must know, here are some of the main contributors in alphabetical order:
Dekay
Double Zero.
Eggbox.
Goodbudgie.
Marmalade Dreams.
Mellowed.
Missy.
Mr Pothead.
Mr Swilly.
Notorious WD.
Up2nogood.
Winstun Churchill.
There are many more involved, in many different ways. Some wish to remain anonymous, others are not even involved with the community. Such as all the other-halfs and partners of those who have devoted masses of their time towards the development of the site so far. There are so many people to name/thank/credit for where we are today - and hopefully there will be so many more people who join the party over the coming years. For being part of all this - we want to thank you all.
So please, use The Green Circle without fear of history repeating itself. TGC has the resources, community and enough blooming seeds to keep us growing strong for decades to come.
The futures bright, the futures green.
Much love,
mellowed and egg
