Used to swill barley wine at college, 8.5% old tom from a north west brewery. Down a pint and face goes purple kind of thing.

It has a smooth chocolate aftertaste when you take a sip of it. Lovely stuff.

Not a barley wine mate

 

 

 

The St.Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic 'Quadrupel' style of Belgium's best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excells because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. (10,0% ABV) Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It's a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren

I used to drink small cans of barley wine,bloody disgusting but used to get me pissed on a few lol

Yeah barley wine is served like beer here, frothy head, by the pint, To all intents and purposes a beer of sorts, just named stupidly.

Only problem with the west-vleteren is that it is extremely hard to get.

Made by monks in the abbey and the production is very limited. I've seen a six-pack of these go for around 240 USD on ebay.

Fortunately I have a friend who's uncle is one of the monks

 

When I have a case again I'll put six on the side and send them over to the UK. Could be a nice prize for a competition no?
