@Huktonfonics

yeah brother I haven't got the CMH yet, but as I said, it is definitely on the list...

thing is I am gonna have to put in a grow under some HPS and COB combo first, by then I should be able to afford the china CMH, probably just go all in and swap the 600 HPS for 2 separate 315s at that point, get a box of bulbs too

but I agree the 3K-R bulb has plenty of deep reds and this is why I say that this and COB together is a match made in heaven... I have been holding off on pulling the trigger as I feel there is gonna be some new COB stuff any day now, hopefully of the Cree variety, and likely that will be a big step up in performance since it has been so long since the Cree COB line has had any real upgrades, but knowing my luck i will get sick of waiting, get the CMH, and the next week they will announce new COBs LOL

I am very interested to see this 14/10 flower cycle you speak of, know nothing about it, and if I am honest it sounds kinda scary and like trouble. But I look forward to being proved wrong by you mate  :)

@Nefarious Shenanigans

I've given up on holding out on any new cree stuff. I figure 1) it's gonna be stupid expensive 2) quantum boards will probably beat it 3) the Samsung strips will probably beat it vs cost v efficacy.

But I'm always up for new tech, and Alibaba and Kingbrite meet my cost vs curiosity so far.

The 14/10 isn't so scary when you consider knocking 2 hours off our indoor sleep cycle. We basically get the 12/12 with extra growth as we knock the girls out straight away

Yeah, it's been a while since I read up about phytochrome red and phytochrome far red, but still remember the gist of it. If I remember, essentially phytochrome red is produced in well lit conditions, and rapidly falls off in low light, far red is produced in darkness and falls off in light. Once far red levels hit a given point compared to red (different in each strain, sometimes individual) the hormones needed to trigger flowering are produced.

So basically, you're boosting levels of far red using LED rather than darkness, allowing for longer periods of light exposure without interrupting bloom. Provided there is still enough of a dark period to allow phytochrome red levels to subside, I can't see any major issue with the idea :)

The chances of it working as planned depend on genetics too of course, a lowland Colombian requiring 14 solid hours of darkness to maintain bloom would be unlikely to respond too well, whereas many indicas will flower happily on 10 hours of darkness and would likely take it in their stride.

I ran 14/10 with a tent full of indica/sativa crosses in veg... trying to save a few bucks on power, and they all started flowering after a week of that :lol:

Hybrids can be all sorts of wierd lol, my SSS#1 is an F1 50/50 ind/sat cross and despite being a more balanced pheno still refuses to bud properly on 12/12. On the flip side, most phenos of my first cross, KC33 x Skunk/Haze would happily flower with 14 hours light per day.

On the more unusual side of things, a month or two back I had a pure sativa (Thai, Malawi, Reunion) on the edge of bloom on 18/6. If I dropped to 16 I think she'd have gone for it but the rest need 11/13 so needs must. Just goes to show how variable cannabis can be ;)

@jimmi2scoops

I've just been nosing around on Alibaba atvwhats on offer. Some of the suppliers are giving the option of customisation, so you can choose what led colours you want, but most have a minimum order quantity.

Have a mooch on Alibaba for Samsung LM561c boards. There's tons.

be wary of alibaba fellas

not everything on offer there is legit or described correctly, you have to really be quite discerning

I trust kingbrite

beyond that, you are fishing in uncharted waters IMHO brother Fonics, but that is not to say that good stuff cannot be found there, of course it can... just gotta be a little careful and ask a lot of questions, demand datasheets etc. You usually quickly learn there is some jokers about, as I did when I asked about square wave LEC ballasts to some supposed manufacturers of LEC stuff, and they were like square what? LOL

Ebm were the only LEC guys that even knew what I was talking about

forgot to mention...

also interesting are the Bridgelux EB Gen 2 strips, much like a quantum but a narrow strip designed to be roughly the size of flourescent tubes so you can sorta fit them in the same spaces, but not a flouro replacement bulb as such

efficacy is very near the QBs at about 180lm/w and cheaper watt for watt I believe, but that'll depend on local availability wherever you are I guess... google bridgelux eb strips and you will see a few datasheets come up, make sure you are reading the one for gen 2, the old gen is only about 159lm/w

I don't know a huge amount about them, but I reckon @Homer could maybe tell us a thing or two about them, I remember him mentioning them at some point
