So glad you said that last bit and I will look forward to the comparisons and then the full monty of mixed grow spectaculars you do
I am distracted at mo oil is still bubbling ever so slightly so none for me yet unless I accidentally dip my finger in, hmmm, no will have a whiskey and wait patiently but still distracted
Gotta have try-outs before it gets to join the team!
It certainly passes the eyeball test now that it's up and working. And it did'nt blow up or fry my electrical so we can move to the next phase!
Oh here we go, more new tech ! Im a cunt for new gadgets.
What are you thinking regarding combos ?
Do you think the spectrum would change drastically if folks wanted to run the HPS at a lower wattage, with more lamps for a more uniform light spread in bigger setups?
Oh I'm a sucker for new grow tech too Huk...especially new lights!!!!
This is actually the third thing regarding lights I'm into right now....At the local hydroshop is a 3 way light fight....a LED panel (the same I'm using) vs a 300watt COB LED light, vs a 315LEC.
I also have some new CMH/LEC info to digest regarding super lumen ballasts.
And then this new CHPS so there's all sorts of light info in my head right now mixing up like a frozen drink in a blender
I'm thinking a couple different ways to use this light....Blending it with LED and also coming up with some stage of growth lighting where a combo of LED, CMH, and CHPS will all be used but at different stages of the garden.
I'm looking at LED for veg, LED + CHPS for flowering, and then LED + 10,000k CMH for the ripening stage
I was told not to dim this light so for now I'm going to follow those instructions. After probably two grows with it I'll be looking to buy a new lamp. Once I have another lamp then this lamp will be put on another e-ballast and a mag ballast to see how it fires. If it's still alive after those tests then I'll see what happens when it gets dimmed.
that new light looks the shizzle m8 ! One mean fucker ! And a free bulb too
Winner winner chicken dinner !
Gotta love those freebies Roy!!!!
It dwarfs my CMH fixtures, almost 2x as big

Up and running!
Ballast gets warm but not hot.
Lamp gets hot and reflector gets warm.
Doing the simple hand test, my 150 watt LED drivers get hotter than the ballast of the 600 watt CHPS
I dont think this would do well in a tent but in an open room/space with ductless aircooling for lights it's heat is easily manageable.
I'll get more details on temps later when I shoot a laser thermometer at it.
Took some preliminary PAR or PPFD readings which is basically a lumens test for plants. PAR is not the absolute defining measurement of light quality but it is good data to have. Spectral charts are the go to data points and a PAR test shows how intense that spectrum can be.
It measured very well and as good if not better than any 600 I've tested. The thing that stood out more than anything is how the PAR increases as distance to target increases on the perimeters. Other lights tend to drop off the meter as distance to target increases, not get better.
So after that test I'd say this light has a true 4'x4' footprint (1.21m x 1.21m) and has the power to drive thru a thick canopy to grow monster plants.
Next I'll see if it can do exactly that while also living up to manufacturer claims of limiting stretch and increasing oils
