Rather than scab this on to the end of the other thread I thought I would start a new one for the actual build.

It's going to be a slow moving thread as I will only be working on it a few hours after work three nights a week while I am stuck in a hotel.

The build will consist of 20 samsung f series gen 3 3000k 1120mm double row strips mounted on individual heatsinks on an aluminum tube frame. The strips will be driven by 2 meanwell hlg-h600-48b drivers.

I will be building the light in 2 halves to keep it manageable as it's going to be quite heavy and awkward. Over all the frame will be 120x170cm but only 25mm thick.

Tonight I managed to get 10 of the heatsinks drilled and tapped to the front and back tubes. There are plastic corners that attach the side tubes and t-connectors to join the frames together but I'm leaving them off until the wiring is complete.

I will be using the tubes as duct to hide the wiring. More on that later once I have pictures to show.

Tomorrow I will be assembling the second half of the frame.

Managed to get the other half of the heatsinks mounted. I'm sure the maid appreciates the aluminum shavings in the carpet.

Also soldered and rung out two 19 pin socapex female connectors for a 30' remote driver panel.

I will only be using 10 of the wires for now but I'll have room to add drivers later for red and blue channels.

The rest of my connectors showed up so next week I should get the frames wired up and maybe the room side junction box.

Nice tidy looking work @Elevator dude :)

Did you drill the frame with a regular hand drill?

Do you have to use thermal paste on the underside of the led strips or is there enough contact made with the strips and aluminum channels to pull the heat away from the led strips?

I drilled and tapped the heatsinks with a cordless hand drill and 10/32 bolts. I was working in a hotel room so I didn't have all of my tools with me to line everything up. The screws ended up a little crooked but it doesn't look bad.

I haven't attached the strips yet but I am going to use double sided thermal tape with a few nylon bolts for piece of mind. The tape isn't as efficient as thermal grease but it will make it easier to assemble. I am waiting until its built and I am done moving it around so I dont damage the strips.

It's going to be at least another month before i set my house on fire at this rate.

I need to finish the room on top of finishing this light so I'm taking my time.

I do have some small updates though. Resistors for 10 of the strips mounted to terminal blocks.

Then I soldered up one of the panel connectors. Its going to be mounted to a junction box feeding the resistors before the strips.

No complaints on my samsung f's g3's so far, inter-nodes seem tight and they are all comfy snuggled up in the blanket of photons )
