its much cheaper than a new fan Jimmy.
You know me, I like to keep an eye on the pennies and live up to my Scottish-ness.
if you had the bearings, and the tools, I reckon you could turn this around in an hour, no problem

The cheaper ones work in the same way as dimmer switches - they interrupt the AC waveform on every cycle, like this:

The red line shows the output, which switches on where that line is vertical and then switches off when the Voltage reaches 0, only to be repeated on the next cycle.
It's those hard switch-ons that cause the noise because they give the fan rotor a "kick" 50 times per second.

think a diy acoustic box is in order for the next grow.. had one last time when i was in my en-suite, but only had 4inch rhino pro rvk kit, and a dehumidifier.. so didnt really need the acoustic box

how much to buy a half decent one what i could just plug into the wall??
me and electrics is not a good idea, i usually break things, replacing RVK bearings seems about my limit lol, i cant take things apart and put them back together but to actually build something electronically, f*@k that hahaha
