hi all i thought id start a thread showing how an old fossil who spent nearly 40 years growing under hids can change to modern quantum led and not bugger it up! 

well my first delve into led did not go well,

my bro bought an led growlight online, tried and failed to grow with it and gave it to me,i tried it and it just bleached the living daylights out of a lovely barneys farm peppermint kush ruining foliage and ending with a sad finish and very little weed!

so you see how this put me of leds for ages and i just stuck with what i know and am used to using without to much problems until i met our @Forest and after watching several of his diaries and seeing such nice results and then the real convincer was a visit to forests and a look in his aladins cave of leds and weed was impressive.

and as he was kind enough to build me a smashing light for cost i have been running exact same strains and phenotypes of bodhi sunshine daydream for some 41 days so far as i previously grew under mh/hps and have been very happy watching good progress and topnotch trichome coverage.

and considering the lamp is of i think 2700k made for flowering mostly and i have both vegged and so far flowered under the same light all the way through.

some differences i have noticed are,firstly transition from veg to flower takes longer by a week,photoperiod plants do not stretch like normal for those 10-14 days and then stop and flower but more continue growing up at same time as flowering all the way through.

also roots continue growth during flowering and easily become rootbound so my next run under the quantum led shall be in either airpots or fibre sacks as forest did warn me i took the chance and repotted mid flower with zero slowdown or ill affects.

you get lots more foliage and will need to do some defoliation esp if you grow scrogs to increase airflow and not any nonsense about fan leaves blocking light to buds an old wives tale disproven many years ago.

temperature is much lower than using hids and extraction never goes above idle but if you grow in a cold place you need to add heat even with the led on.

and you will see your electric bill go down a bit if not supplementing heating

i shall just add that as this is still in progress it could all go tits up yet but i shall add a few pics here and show the same plants last run under 2x250w hps and some this time using the quantum led

I thought the qb leds needed more distance from the canopy than hps?

I would like to go led but to cover my area it would cost thousands...…...and im tight...……...and I would cry if the pigs pushed my door in again and took them...…..again.

hi billy 18 inches for this led but mines at 20 ish and dimmer on full whack no bleaching so far,@Forest is best place to source your led top quality of materials and workmanship,peace

hi jimmi im not expecting any record harvests and so far bud density is not near on par with the hid lights but i vowed to do the whole run just under the led to learn its true measure and being first run im learning as i go but if they do not firm up a bit it will be big puffy buds not big solid nailbreakers like same under the hps,time will tell,thanks for looking in,peace

Jackball and I will be going to France at the end of Feb or early March, just have to wait until his grow is finished and me to get correct medication for my diabetes and have a scan on my guts.

 

We will pop in on the way if that's OK with you, may stay the night and get ferry in the morning.

Duke you could fooking grow top quality plants mate with a candle and a tin can as lighting. What you are going to do with those top end LEDs you have is going to be stunning.

Getting frosty in there though, these LEDs are great for that!

 

That aside, with the net @duke do you remove leaves to expose bud sites then? 

 

See, my LED makes the buggers grow more leaf than dope, should I be removing loads of leafage then?

hi marcus i would normally remove very few leaves only those needed to maintain healthy scrog but it gets to a point where in the confines of a drobe that foliage becomes so dense as to impede airflow and cause problems so i remove only enough leaves to keep it flowing right,its nonsense fan leaves blocking light but they can and do block airflow though so have to go,on plus side they are resin encrusted and all go in the oil pot!not bothered having lots of leaves as long as there lots of bud to go with it!

i honestly didnt think id ever try another led after my first farce but forest grow persuade me to try again,peace
