@Forest every time I've taken a clone off an auto, it was a dwarf (I had to try it)
i have done same and yes i to got midgets not worth a wank!but then my autos often are as i get bored and evict them to the lightbox in my back garden then forget them entirely and ive no idea how they survived 3 months or so with no feed in coco and only odd drops of rainwater, was 7-8 inches tall with tiny rotten mouldy buds full of slugs!peace

I think it's all about age with auto clones. Probably obvious to everyone else, huh, just not me.
I took cuts late, so the clones were the same age as the moms, and they skipped the vegging stage. I never took clones off clones, but what I'd get was a plant about 1/2 the size of the mom. They grew just fine, though.
I'd bet if you took cuttings early enough, you could get some size, but whadda eye know?
If you go late, midgets

Not sure which breeder it came from originally, but a huge amount of earlyish autos got the trait from the same Northern Lights line, crossed to stabilize the auto trait. Not exceptionally potent or high yielding, but very fast, reasonable branching, and fairly short. As more autos were made there was less need to use the same strain to make them so gradually things changed.
Most breeders don't go into detail about their strains lineage, but chances are more or less any fast finishing auto from 5+ years ago will have that autoNL in there. Ace seeds' autoMalawi x NL uses it, though in that case it doesn't make them dwarf autos, it stops the Malawi from making a triffid auto!
The older Critical autos I ran years back had it too and were dwarfs, not sure about the newer versions though.
Best of luck finding what you're after dude,
ATB

Haven't seen a lot about auto seeds but I have gotten some from @igiggle, who had received them from ZenArcher. I received them because igiggle doesn't grow autos.
I have grown a GSC auto, Dark Devil auto and currently have a Cindy Jock auto in the tent. None of them have gotten more than 18" tall but I have used topping and LST on all of them and have gotten @ 2.5 oz. from each of them.
For my money, I would look to Zen for info on autos.
I'm really pretty much a noob but I've learned a lot in the last year and a half. Best of luck in finding what you're looking for!
