Hi all.
It has been a very long time since I have done a grow indoors and sometimes wonder if I have forgotten how
Many things have changed for one cannabis is now completely legal to grow and consume on private property here in South Africa which is a nice change from being hounded by the feds for a plant by the pool.
The plan is to do a scrog under 2 cool tubes x 600w hps in a 1.5m x 1.5m tent.
The Strain = Blow Dream from Victory Seeds aka their version of Blue Dream
The System = Single AutoPots but raised with the pipe overflow attachment so I can easily flush the pots. I know the system is designed so that if you don't overfeed them the salts will rise and form the salt exclusion layer at the top of the pot thus not affecting the lower roots at all. "BUT" here in SA the winters are quite cold so growing in winter is difficult even with using the lights at night to keep the temps up as the max temps I can achieve are around the 17'c... Valleys and rivers climate.. and in summer the temps can start at low 20'c and ratchet all the way up to 36'c by 3pm which makes it difficult to get the ec's spot on.
The reason of the difficulty is simple. when the temps are colder the plant will consume in a ratio of more salts vs water. When the temps rise the plant will consume more water vs salts. This can give rise to a situation where if you measure the liquids at the base of the tray you may find that the ec's are actually lower than that of your rez but in spite of this the salts are still not being transported fast enough upwards leading to nutrient lockouts.
In order to offset this issue a simple flush of plain water from dippers with a runoff pipe to remove the excess once a week should be more than enough.
Chem = I have discovered the awesomeness that is hydro buddy so I now buy cheap bulk mineral salts to copy expensive formulations for a fraction of the cost. In this case I will be copying the GHSC Hybrid + GHSC Boost schedule and pretty closely at that.
Substrate = 60/40 mix of coco and perlite with 1L of hydrotons at the base of each pot. It was 50/50 but i was a bit light on substrate so I just added some extra coco.
I have germinated all the seeds and had a 100% success rate. I will put some photos up this evening after work and look forward to see how this turns out.
